Peter Kananji

Peter Kananji was born in Rusape. After Gunda Primary School, the Tsindi, he attended Secondary School. He acquired in-depth knowledge of sculpture in 1990 at the Chapungu Sculpture Park in Harare. Already as a small boy he was playfully engaged in sculpting in clay and from stone.

In 1998 he moved to the Ambassador Sculpture Gallery.

His work has been exhibited in the U.S., Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, and in galleries in Zimbabwe, such as the National Gallery and Chapungu Sculpture Park. He is a member of the Artpeace collaboration, but works at home with his family.

Peter Kananji shapes very distinctive heads from skilfully chosen stone.
